Beta notes
Folders 0.9.0 public beta
Folders is in public beta: the full app, for sale, but not fully polished yet. Every download is free for 14 days, then $99 once or $4.99 a month. It updates itself when a new version is out, and your feedback decides what gets fixed first.
What works
- One sidebar for This Mac, iCloud Drive, Apple Photos, external drives and memory cards.
- A quick index you can browse right away, then sharper previews while your Mac is idle.
- Browsing and searching drives that are unplugged.
- Every copy of a file: which drive, which folder, and whether that drive is plugged in.
- Importing from cards into any folder or Apple Photos album.
- Open, rename, move, copy and Trash, the way Finder does it.
- Workspaces and favorites.
Read only by design
Indexing and previews only read your drives. Folders changes a file only when you ask it to, and Trash means the Trash, so you can put things back. It is still a beta, so keep a backup of anything you can't replace.
Rough edges
- The first index of a big spinning drive takes a while. You can browse while it runs.
- Apple Photos asks for permission the first time you select it.
- Network drives have had the least testing.
Requirements
macOS 14 Sonoma or later, on Apple silicon or Intel Macs.
Updates
Folders checks for a new version once a day. To check now, choose Check for Updates in the Folders menu.
