Privacy Policy

Effective October 30, 2026

Folders is private by design. The short version: your files, your index and your previews stay on your Mac. The app has no account, no analytics and no ads, and it does not send your files or information about them to us or anyone else.

What stays on your Mac

To show your files, Folders builds an index and a set of previews:

• File names, folders, sizes, dates and the camera details stored inside each file.
• Preview images and video posters made from your files.
• A fingerprint of each file, used to count copies across drives.
• Your favorites, workspaces and settings.

All of it is stored on your Mac, in your user Library. None of it is transmitted to us. Deleting Folders and its Application Support folder deletes it.

Apple Photos

If you allow it, Folders reads your Photos library through Apple's PhotoKit framework to show it in the sidebar. It changes your library only when you ask, for example when you favorite a photo, create an album or import into one.

Automation

Folders asks for permission to control the Photos app for one feature, Open in Photos, which shows the item you chose in Photos. It is not used for anything else.

iCloud Drive

Files in iCloud Drive are synced by macOS, not by Folders. When you choose to download a file or remove its local copy, Folders asks macOS to do it.

Network

Folders connects to our servers for two things, and neither sends anything about your files, index or previews:

• Updates. Once a day, Folders checks foldersformac.com for a newer version. The request carries the app's version, like any download.
• Licenses. On a monthly plan, Folders checks your subscription with our server about once a week, sending only your license number. If you ask to restore a license, it sends the email address you type so we can resend your key.

Purchases

Purchases are processed by Stripe. We receive your name, email address and what you bought so we can deliver your license and answer support requests. Your license key is emailed to you through Amazon SES. We never see your full card number. Stripe's handling of your payment is covered by the Stripe Privacy Policy.

This website

This site uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers. It is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to deliver and protect the site.

If you join the launch list, we store your email address, the time you signed up and the link you arrived from. We use it to send one email when Folders is ready to buy. Reply to that email or write to us and we delete your address.

Support email

When you email us, we keep the conversation to help you and to improve Folders. We never share it.

What we don't do

We do not sell data, show ads, or combine information about you with data from other companies to track you.

Children

Folders is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If how Folders or this site handles data ever changes, we will update this page and its effective date before the change ships.
